How do you get started searching for items?

HireItLower has many ways of finding products to hire. However, the most commonly used methods are to browse through Categories or to search by keyword and location.

Searching for products in a location

The most common ways to find what you're looking for is to search for it using a keyword and specifying the area that you wish to search in.

Simply enter a very general keyword relating to the item you're looking for in the Search Bar on the top right of this page. The less specific you are, the more results you will likely get. Then - optionally - you can enter a location. You do this by starting to type the suburb, town or city you want under the Location section of the search bar.

As you start typing the location, a list may appear providing you with selection options. For example, you may see your suburb listed multiple times, as in the picture here. This means that there are 'surrounding areas' attached to that particular location, and it means that you can search within those surrounding areas as well as the main location you selected. Or, if you select ONLY the exact suburb, the search will be limited to only the exact suburb,town or city you entered.

When you have entered a search keyword and (optionally) a location, you can click on the blue 'find' button, the search box will expand and results will be fetched from our database and displayed to you.

Category Search - If there is a category that closely matches your search term, it will be displayed here. Click on it to browse all listings within that category.

Location Search - If you provided a location, you can browse all listings matching your keyword and location by clicking on the appropriate location. If applicable, surrounding locations will be shown too.

Product Search - The most general of searches, HireItLower's tag database will be searched for listings which may match your search term.

You can click on any of the white link items to browse further! If you don't have any luck with searching, try be a little less specific, or remove the location from your search.

Searching for products by browsing categories

You can also search by category. The most popular categories on our website are displayed on the home page, as well as the most popular sub-categories within.

In addition, you when you're a bit deeper into the site, you can locate the 'view categories' button and click on it, to bring down a drop-down list of all the available categories, allowing you to jump straight to another one.

What other methods are there for finding products?

The Tag Cloud - All listings in the HireItLower database are tagged with up to 3 key words that describe the product or service being listed. The tag cloud, found on the home page, trawls these tags and displays every unique tag that appears a minimum number of times. The more popular the tag, the larger the tag's font is. Normally, this means that you have more options to choose from, but generic tags like 'car' may appear to be more popular than they really are.

New Listings - The latest listings are always featured on the home page, at the very top, just under the menu bar. These listings will stay there as long as there is space remaining for them to display, until a newer listing is created.

Hot Hires - On a daily basis, popular listings are cycled through and displayed under the 'Hot Hires' section. If it's in demand, it's bound to be found under Hot Hires!

The A-Z - We have created an alphabetical index of every single listing on our system, which can be sorted and viewed as a table.
